The good news is that the latest estimates show that German and US yields are up on 2007. While this may result in slightly lower prices for some German varieties, all US hops are expected to rise yet again. Here in the UK we have also seen better yields but there is a problem. Most farmers had to harvest while the hops were still wet, making the drying process difficult and resulting with rather poor looking cones with brown tinged leaves. So far there is no indication of likely prices.

Although yields were not as bad as in 2007, this years crops were somewhat variable. Winter barleys, such as Maris Otter, have fared quite well. Spring sown barley, however, has been difficult to harvest due to the very heavy rain. 2008 prices will show a small increase of around 5% over last year.
